Talion ( Troy Baker ) is a Ranger native to Gondor responsible for guarding the Black Gate of Mordor . However, Talion's family is murdered by Sauron 's forces . Talion is brought back to life by magic and goes to Mordor in search of revenge. In the game, Mordor is not yet a dead and dark area. The player will encounter Gollum and Celebrimbor , among others . Discovering that he and Gollum have much in common, Talion learns that Celebrimbor, an elf blacksmith during the Second Age and creator of the Rings of Power , was the one who brought him back to life and teams up with him to stop Sauron.
