Phantasy Star Online is an action role-playing game (ARPG) developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega in 2000 for the Dreamcast . The game has been ported to Windows , GameCube and Xbox in subsequent years.
It was the first online role-playing game for consoles where you could play missions, collect items and fight enemies with three other players via the internet . The storyline differs from previous Phantasy Star games.
The online series continued with Phantasy Star Universe (2006) and the Japanese Phantasy Star Online 2 from 2012. Even though Sega has shut down the official servers, the game is still kept alive by hobbyists.
