The story was supposed to be the same as Ocarina of Time, but the Great Deku Tree could not awaken Link due to Gruntilda beating Ganondorf to the punch and imprisoning him as well as Link and Zelda in Hyrule Castle. She then hacks the code to make herself ruler of Hyrule, so the Great Deku Tree sends Bottles to awaken Banjo and Kazooie to do the task instead. The only way to open the Door of Time is by collecting the Jiggies of Time.
