Battlefield 6 is a 2025 live service first-person shooter developed by Battlefield Studios and published by Electronic Arts, marking the eighteenth installment in the iconic Battlefield series. The game is set in a near-future conflict (2027–2028) between a fractured NATO and Pax Armata, a powerful private military company. It returns to the series’ roots with a serious tone, drawing inspiration from Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4.

It features four distinct character classes—Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon—each with unique weapons and abilities. The game emphasizes large-scale, destructive battles with sprawling maps, vehicular combat, and a new “Kinesthetic Combat System” for enhanced movement and immersion. Players can customize weapons extensively and engage in both infantry and vehicular warfare across nine launch maps, with more planned post-launch.

The multiplayer suite includes classic modes like Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush, alongside the new Escalation mode. The game also introduces Battlefield Portal, a robust map and mode editor powered by the Godot engine, allowing players to create and share custom experiences, from recreations of classic maps to entirely new game types.

The single-player campaign follows Marine Raider Gunnery Sergeant Dylan Murphy and his squad as they uncover a conspiracy involving Pax Armata, the CIA, and a destructive nano-compound. The narrative spans global locations, from Georgia to New York City, and culminates in a dramatic confrontation with the shadowy forces behind the war.

A free-to-play battle royale mode, Battlefield RedSec, launched on October 28, 2025, offering a standalone experience with its own progression and a knockout elimination mode called “Gauntlet.”

Developed by DICE, Criterion Games, Motive Studio, and Ripple Effect Studios, Battlefield 6 is one of the most expensive games ever made, with a budget exceeding $400 million. It received generally positive reviews, praised for its return to form, immersive gameplay, and innovative Portal mode. The game sold over 7 million copies in its first three days, setting a new series record.
