Alice: Madness Returns, also known as Alice: Madness Returns – Complete Edition is a compilation of two games: the original American McGee’s Alice (2000) and its sequel Alice: Madness Returns (2011). Together, they tell the full dark reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland through the eyes of Alice Liddell, a young woman traumatized by the mysterious fire that killed her family. In the first game, Alice is institutionalized in an asylum, and her fractured mind reshapes Wonderland into a grotesque reflection of her trauma. In the sequel, now under the care of Dr. Angus Bumby in Victorian London, Alice continues to suffer hallucinations and returns to Wonderland, which has become even more corrupted. As she battles twisted versions of familiar characters and monstrous enemies, Alice gradually uncovers suppressed memories and learns that Bumby was responsible for her family’s death. By confronting both Wonderland’s horrors and the truth in the real world, Alice reclaims her identity, merging the two realities into a fragile but hard-won sense of self.
