The protagonist, Ryo Hazuki, has travelled from Japan to Hong Kong and now to the Guilin area of China, following the clues uncovered in previous installments of the game. He has met a beautiful and mysterious girl, Ling Shenhua, about whom, he realizes, he has had dreams. This, plus the understanding that an ancient prophecy binds the two of them together, leads to them traveling together.
